The Power of Holy Basil

Basil is part of the mint family. You’re probably most familiar with sweet basil, which is the form commonly used in Italian cuisine.

Other forms of basil are lemon basil, Thai basil and holy basil, the latter of which plays an important role in Ayurvedic medicine.

While basil is primarily used for its flavor in Western cuisine, holy basil leaves and oil are revered for their therapeutic properties.

Tulsi means “matchless,” or “the incomparable one”. It refers to the goddess for whom the herb is named, Lakshmi. All parts of the plant are considered holy, even the soil that surrounds it.
